Configuring the IDTech VP3350 Reader

The IDTech VP3350 comes in 3 different variants:

  • Bluetooth
  • Lightning (Apple proprietary connector)
  • USB-C (Newest connection standard for Android and Apple 2023 and newer)
    The VP3350 supports all types of payments, including Apple and Google Pay.


IOS - Preparing to Use the IDTech VP3350

If you use the Stax Mobile SDK for iOS and plan to use the IDTech VP3350 with your mobile app for the first time, the following steps must occur. if you are using Android or Bluetooth to connect with your readers, skip to the Android or Bluetooth sections.

  1. Please provide us with the following:
  • The “Bundle ID” of your apps. This will generally be com.yourdomain.yourappname.
  • Whether or not you will ever use Lightning or USB readers.
  • The name of the app on the App Store.
  • The app’s current version number.
  • The app’s current build number.
  1. Update your projects to use the latest Stax SDKs.
  2. Follow the required config changes to your apps Info.plist files detailed in our documentation:https://api-docs.staxpayments.com/docs/ios

We will send the information provided to us in Step 1 to IDTech, which will work with Apple to confirm that you are enrolled in their MFi program. Once confirmed, we will send you a set of Apple PPIDs, which must be included in your Review Notes for Apple.

You do not need to wait for Apple to complete their review to move forward with development. You will only need to wait to submit your app for review. Additionally, these steps will not be required for future updates to your mobile app.



Android - Preparing to Use the IDTech VP3350

If you are using the Stax Mobile SDK for Android and plan to use the IDTech VP3350 with your mobile app for the first time, the following steps need to take place:

  1. Update your projects to use the latest Stax SDKs.

Bluetooth - Connecting the Mobile Reader

The VP3350 should be charged four to six hours before the first use. After charging the device, follow the pairing instructions below to use the device in BLE.

Bluetooth Pairing Instructions

In addition to the instructions below, see the section on iOS Connectivity for more information on using an iPad or iPhone with the VP3350.

  1. Enable the Bluetooth device search function on the host device (smartphone or tablet).
  2. Ensure the VP3350 is charged or connected to a power source via USB.
  3. When connected to a power source, the VP3350 automatically activates Bluetooth. Press the VP3350’s power button to activate Bluetooth automatically when not connected to a power source.
  4. Find a Bluetooth device named IDTECH-VP3350-XXXXX on the host smartphone or tablet and select Pair.
  5. Enter the password for pairing. The default password is 123456.
  6. Follow the payment transaction instructions a compatible payment application maker provides to complete a transaction.

The VP3350 will remain connected via Bluetooth to the host device indefinitely when powered via the USB cable. If the unit operates on battery power, it will sleep after 30 seconds of idling to extend battery life. To perform a transaction again, press the power button to re-establish the Bluetooth connection.

When connecting to an iOS device, please install a compatible payment application and follow the instructions provided by that application’s maker.
